Denver Martial Arts Championships

The Denver Martial Arts Champs is our annual tournament held each September, at Alameda International Jr/Sr High School.  

Lee H. Park Team Championships

The Lee H. Park Team Champs is our annual team tournament held each December, at Alameda International Jr/Sr High School. It is held in honor of our founder, Great Grandmaster Lee H. Park. 

CTI Superbowl

The CTI Superbowl is our annual "year-end" tournament held each February, at Alameda International Jr/Sr High School.

All-City Championships

The All-City Champs is our annual tournament held each April, at Alameda International Jr/Sr High School. It is the tournament that kick starts our CTI summer!

April 25 & 26, 2025

Moo Sul Kwan martial arts were brought to the United States in 1969, by Lee H. Park.  For over four decades, Moo Sul Kwan has hosted championship tournaments and events for the positive educational experiences of its students and instructors. 


The CTI Superbowl has grown over the many years and celebrates the end of our CTI-year with exciting competitions and demonstrations. There will be divisions involving all ages and belt levels where competitors will test their skills with fellow students and instructors from all the CTI programs.


Practice well and always compete in the true spirit of the AMASEA, MSK, and CTI.

Aims & Goals of Our Tournaments

  1. A knowledge of the value of competition to the individual and to the martial art family.
  2. An understanding of the rules essential to being a part of the competition.
  3. The ability to think as an individual.
  4. For good human relationships.
  5. Respect the rights of others and for those in authority.
  6. Builds self-confidence and emotional maturity.
  7. Utilization of information from other participants.

Personal Requirements

  1. Each competitor must be from a martial arts school with a recognized black belt instructor.
  2. The personal hygiene of competitors is of the highest standard.
  3. The judges and contestants shall wear only a martial arts uniform in good condition.
  4. All competitors must wear a mouth guard, headgear, safety punch, and safety kick equipment when free-sparring.
  5. Males 11 yrs. and up are required to wear a protective cup or groin guard when sparring.
  6. All students ages 9 and up are required to wear a chest protector in free-sparring competitions.
  7. All competitors shall keep their nails cut short and shall not wear any metallic article that may possibly injure or interfere with the competition.
  8. In the opinion of the judges, if the hair of the contestant appears that it may possibly cause a problem, the judges will request that it be tied back out of the way.

Competitions

Poomse

All Ages and Belts

Poomse is a set pattern of movement executed against imaginary opponents attacking from several different directions. Scores will be based on power, form, execution of technique, and grace and harmony of movement. On the event of a tie, another poomse will be chosen by the contestants to be performed and scored.

Free Sparring

Junior, Teens & Adults; all Belts

Sparring competition follows the single elimination type format.


Point Scoring System

  • 3 point - spinning kick to recognized target areas
  • 2 points - all kicks to recognized target areas
  • 1 point - all punches/strikes to recognized target areas


Recognized Offensive Implements for Scoring of Valid Points

  • Fore Fist
  • Foot Sword
  • Ball of Foot
  • Heel
  • Instep
  • Inside Heel


Authorized Scoring Areas

  • Facial Areas (black belts only)
  • Chest Areas
  • Stomach Areas
  • Sides


Prohibited Acts 

Warnings - The center referee shall give a warning when one of the following is committed. Three warnings result in a minus point. 

  • Running out of the ring
  • Holding
  • Stalling
  • Escaping by showing back to opponent
  • Pretending injury or pain
  • Ducking head
  • Blind attack
  • Pushing with the  shoulder, body, or hands
  • Intentional falling
  • Attacking an unauthorized area


Deduction of Points - The following prohibited acts shall warrant a deduction of one point. When a contestant gets the deduction two times, the center referee shall disqualify the competitor. 

  • Attacking a fallen opponent
  • Head butting
  • Throwing the opponent
  • Intentionally attacking an unauthorized area
  • Committing three warnings
  • Low kick or punch with power


Disqualifications - The center referee shall disqualify the competitor when one of the following is committed. 

  • Injuring the opponent's face (any blood or swelling)
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct
  • Attacking the opponent after "Kayleo"
  • Intentionally attacking an unauthorized area
  • Committing two deduction points for the same infraction

Breaking

Ages 12 and Up; Orange through Black Belts

Junior and adult students from the rank of orange belt and above will be allowed to participate in this special competition. This competition is only for ages 12 and up, and each competitor must have instructor approval.
